Junior Instrumental Engineer
Description
Role Purpose:
To support the maintenance and control systems team by assisting with the maintenance, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems while developing practical experience in industrial and plant environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Instrumentation Maintenance Support
Assist with the maintenance, installation, and replacement of field instruments such as sensors, transmitters, flow meters, pressure gauges, and control valves. Support senior engineers and technicians during maintenance activities.
Calibration & Testing Assistance
Assist with calibration of instruments to ensure accurate readings and compliance with standards. Support testing of instrumentation and control systems under supervision. Record calibration results and report deviations.
SCADA, PLC & Control Systems Support
Assist in monitoring SCADA systems and reporting alarms or faults. Support basic checks on PLC panels, I/O signals, and control loops. Assist with identifying communication or signal issues between field devices and control systems.
Fault Identification & Troubleshooting Support
Assist in identifying faults in instrumentation and control systems. Record and report issues accurately. Support troubleshooting activities under the guidance of senior team members.
Preventative Maintenance Activities
Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance on instrumentation and control systems. Inspect equipment for wear, damage, or inaccuracies and report findings.
Documentation & Reporting
Assist in completing calibration certificates, maintenance reports, loop check sheets, and job cards. Ensure accurate data capturing and proper record-keeping of all activities.
Requirements:
National Diploma or Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation/Control stream), or Mechatronics Engineering
Recent graduate (0–2 years’ experience) or internship exposure in Instrumentation and control systems, or Industrial or plant environments
Basic understanding of Field instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, level), Calibration principles and procedures, Control systems and loops, PLC and SCADA systems (advantageous)
Exposure to Calibration tools and test equipment (advantageous), and Industrial automation environments

Salary
ZAR 14,000 - 18,000 Monthly
