Description
Job Overview
The Welder performs welding, fabrication and repair work on pipes, tanks, structures and related equipment across fuel, petroleum, petrochemical, refinery, pipeline and industrial facilities, in line with approved welding procedures and quality standards.
Reporting to the Site Supervisor / Maintenance Foreman, the successful candidate will carry out welding and fabrication tasks safely and to specification, working alongside supervisors, inspectors and other maintenance personnel while complying with all site safety, environmental and permit requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding, fabrication and repair work according to specifications.
- Weld pipes, tanks, structures and related equipment as required.
- Follow approved welding procedures and quality standards.
- Inspect completed welds and rectify defects where necessary.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools.
- Follow all site safety, environmental and permit requirements.
- Work effectively with supervisors, inspectors and other maintenance personnel.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with company procedures.
- Work independently without supervision when required.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric preferred.
- Recognized Welding Trade Certificate / Red Seal preferred.
- Completed welding trade theory.
- Relevant welding experience in the fuel, petroleum, petrochemical, refinery, pipeline or industrial environment.
- Experience with SMAW (Arc), TIG and/or MIG/MAG welding.
- Experience working with carbon steel and stainless steel.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and isometric drawings.
- Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welding quality requirements.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
- Experience with hot-work procedures and permits will be an advantage.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and other required industrial environments.
