Job Overview
The Control and Instrumentation Engineer works closely with all technical disciplines, project management, the maintenance team, the site team and clients to support the detail design, procurement, planning, execution and completion of control and instrumentation projects, with a particular focus on PLC programming and SCADA development.
Reporting to the Senior Engineer / Project Manager, the successful candidate will combine design and programming responsibility with day-to-day maintenance and commissioning support across the project portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Work with the maintenance team to look after PLCs, instruments and network infrastructure.
- Carry out detail design of automation systems.
- Perform commissioning of control and instrumentation systems.
- Assist in project planning, scheduling and coordination of maintenance contracts, and perform maintenance (including breakdowns and preventative maintenance).
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop project specifications and designs.
- Develop and commission SCADA systems.
- Conduct research and gather data to support project decision-making.
- Prepare and review project documentation, including reports, drawings and technical specifications.
- Monitor project progress and report on key performance indicators.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
- Participate in site visits and inspections as required.
- Support the implementation of health and safety protocols on project sites.
Requirements
- B Tech or Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Control & Instrumentation, Electrical or related field).
- Minimum 3 years' experience post qualification.
- Minimum 3 years' experience programming PLCs.
Skills
- Proficient in PLC programming and SCADA system design and development.
- Competent in reading and producing engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical specifications.
- Experienced in commissioning of control and instrumentation systems.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) for reporting and documentation.
- Strong planning, scheduling and project-coordination ability.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong stakeholder-management and team-collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
