Job description:

JOB DETAILS:

1) Job purpose

The Closer / Closing Supervisor will be responsible for closing and dressing the moulds to the required quality standard and ensuring that health and safety rules are adhered to.

2) Duties and responsibilities:

• • Closing of all the moulds according to the weekly planning report for production.
  • Inspecting the quality and description of the moulds.
  • Bedding of moulds on the correct level to avoid cracking of moulds.
  • Blowing off loose sand from the moulds.
  • Inserting or fitting of all the required core, locators and chaplets.
  • Other Duties or Tasks as requested or required by management.
  • Assessing the paint’s quality and Baume level.
  • Dressing of moulds by spray painting and swabbing.
  • Patching of closed moulds to avoid metal runouts.
  • Monitoring of casting process to ensure the urgent moulds are casted first.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all closing personnel.
  • Apply and adhere to all the safety regulations.
  • Ensure daily Overhead Crane Check Lists, Attendance List, etc. are completed.
  • Ensure daily Toolbox Talks are conducted with reference to Health and Safety.
  • Ensure Subordinates are trained and wear their PPE correctly prior to allowing them to start their tasks;
  • No smoking is allowed during the working hours.
  • Ensure no damage is done to the environment during the execution of duties

3) Qualifications

• • Crane Driver’s license should be considered as the minimum.
  • Grade 12
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years hands-on Closer experience, not just experience in the closing department.
  • Red Seal in Moulding will be an advantage.
  • Must be able to work without guidance or supervision.
  • Must be able to lead, train, motivate and guide team.
  • Fault finding and analysing skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure.

4) Working conditions:

• • The foundry environment is dirty and dusty.
  • During breakdowns longer hours will be worked, even weekends.
  • Due to molten metal and high temperatures, it is a dangerous environment.
  • You are not allowed to leave the furnace with molten and/or metal inside until the furnace has been tapped out.

5) Physical requirements:

• • Good physical health required.
  • Due to production pressure the job can be stressfully.

Experience:

• • Closer: 5 years (Required)
  • Red Seal Moulding - Advantage
